What is it like to pursue fine arts as a Brentwood Academy student?
Each student has unique God-given abilities and talents. We are committed to helping students discover and develop those gifts to their fullest potential.
We offer more than 30 performance and visual arts opportunities for both middle school and upper school students at BA.
With multiple performances and showcases within each branch of the fine arts department annually, students are able to train, progress, and flourish in their chosen discipline.
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS CONCENTRATION
The VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) Concentration acknowledges students who have invested in fine arts offerings at Brentwood Academy. College transcripts will note the Concentration, and students will also wear an honor cord at graduation to recognize the achievement.

MEET THE DIRECTOR
FINE ARTS DIRECTOR
Matt is the Fine Arts Director at Brentwood Academy. While serving in this role, he also is the Assistant Band Director, AV Tech, and BA’s resident boomerang guru. Matt holds a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Trumpet and Jazz Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. In addition to teaching, Matt has acted in a professional capacity as a trumpet player and arranger working with The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Ojays, Brenda Lee, Franki Valli, The Mavericks, The Richmond Symphony, The Great American Music Ensemble and more.
Matt loves working a Brentwood Academy because of the faculty’s commitment to know each student. “When you put that in the framework of being ministerial, we’re changing lives. This gift of music from God is probably one of his most profound gifts to mankind, an element of natural revelation. I love to be part of this God-centered mission, specifically being able to teach band, getting to share God’s profound gift of music with our students in this Christ-centered setting.” Both of Matt’s daughters attended Brentwood Academy. Karley graduated in 2021 and Kelsey was a recent graduate of the Class of 2023.
